What Inspired Me to Write Blind Justice...
Several people asked what inspired me to write Blind Justice. I didn't have a definitive answer either time the question was posed to me so I jokingly answered, Divine Intervention. Afterwards, I pondered the question for some time. Now, I can answer...
Divine Intervention is the answer.
God says, For I know the plans I have for you... (Jer 29:11a). Penning the novel must be a part of God's plan for my life. I know neither the plan nor the book's benefactor to His plan. What I do know is writing a book was not on my bucket list. Not only did I pen the novel, I self published it--learning from my mistakes in the process. Through my meditations, it became clear to me that God gives us gifts to share. My only hope is my sharing inspires, encourages, or uplifts another.
Seven years ago, I embraced journaling. It was my way to clear the clutter from my mind and recenter it. Over the years, my journaling turned into a story. The evolution of the story resulted in a chapter. And one chapter turned into seven. The results, Blind Justice.
My writing was inconsistent. I had no outline. I did not reserve time for writing. But last summer, I gained a renewed focus and completed my manuscript. The passion for social injustice displayed by my protagonist, Taylor, was influenced by the injustices of this world displayed on the grandest of stages. But love--love is universal. Taylor's love for the community kids at her youth development center, her love for the law, and her love for Isaiah are all vital parts of Taylor's life.
If my story lends itself to another's healing or provides a glimmer of hope or inspiration; well, that's good enough for me.
Today, when I am asked what's the inspiration behind Blind Justice I smile and confidently answer...
My inspiration is that of hope and love--love for self, love for family,
love for the law, and love and loyalty to friends.
I hope you are inspired by Taylor's love for all of the above.
